Our History
SCOREscotland’s History
Race Equality work in the Wester Hailes Area was initially addressed by the Wester Hailes Community Relations Project from which Wester Hailes Against Racism Project evolved in 1995.

Unfortunately due to funding cuts the WH Against Racism Project closed down and a similar project was initiated by The Wester Hailes Rep Council Ltd called Multicultural Development Project.
This Project provided excellent service in the community however the community decided they wanted to become independent of the Wester Hailes Rep Council to form an organisation in its own right.
A lengthy process saw the organisation become detached in 2003 to become West Edinburgh Multicultural Organization (WEMO), managed and run by the minority ethnic communities of West Edinburgh.
On 9th November 2007 the organisation relaunched itself as Strengthening Communities for Race Equality Scotland (SCOREscotland), to develop a brand and identity that was more embracing, more accessible and more appropriate to the expanding range of services being provided including making the name more current with the changes taking place in the race equality field.
