Believing that equality is a matter for everyone – minority and majority communities, SCOREscotland has consistently sought to work in partnership with others to address the causes and effects of racism. While every engagement with another organisation or group is a form of partnership working, SCOREscotland is particularly proud of some key partnerships within which we have played a role.
Partnership working is an integral part of SCOREscotland’s values and ethos. We work with a range of agencies and organisations to develop partnership initiatives designed to promote multi-agency approaches to tackling racism and addressing the effects of racism.
WEGARAH (The West Edinburgh Group Against Racial Attacks and Harassment) :
It is a partnership forum supported and serviced by SCOREscotland. It brings together the Police, City of Edinburgh Council housing staff, the High School at Wester Hailes Education Centre and others, along with people from local minority ethnic communities. The group meets regularly to receive reports from local service providers, including Lothian & Borders Police, the WHEC and the CEC.
Members consistently report that this forum creates an effective mechanism to hold agencies to account and likewise, for members to provide support to the agencies to guide equitable service delivery.
DAG (The Diversity Action Group) :
DAG is a partnership with Lothian & Borders Police which advises on and oversees the implementation of a Diversity Action Plan for the West of Edinburgh. Recognising the need to go beyond the WEGARAH model and take proactive, innovative actions, the then local Area Commander of Lothian & Borders Police, Chief Inspector John Hawkins, approached us directly. The group published a nine-points action plan with the aim of providing an equal and excellent policing service to the minority ethnic communities of West Edinburgh. As the plan develops, we hope to see a dedicated Hate Crime Liaison Officer, support for Remote Reporting, and an exploration of restorative justice making a real difference to the quality of life for local people.
