SCOREscotland Women’s Group!

This group has just started at SCOREscotland. It runs on Mondays from 7pm to 8.30pm at WHALE Learning Centre. As the group unanimously agreed to start off by improving our level of overall fitness that is exactly what we are doing initially. Wester Hailes Health Agency is working in partnership with SCOREscotland by providing a female Aerobics Instructor to take us through our paces.

Would you like to join this group?

Now is a very good time to come on board because we are working together to come up with ideas of developments would like to see, things the group would like to do and the general direction in which we would like to take the group. We are keen to ensure that the group is about much more than keeping fit. Your input and ideas could make the difference between the group being good or EXCELLENT! If you would like to find out more about this Women’s Group or you would like to join, please call SCOREscotland on 0131 442 2341 or email us.

Refugee Week

As we all probably know, REFUGEE WEEK was celebrated over the week beginning 14th June. Events organised to mark refuge week are designed to raise awareness of the issues faced by refugees and the contribution to this country they make or could make. It is also another opportunity to bring communities together and celebrate the diversity of cultures that have made Scotland their home.

This year at SCOREscotland, Refugee Week was marked through a play staged by children and young people of our Knots and Crosses Youth Club – KCYC in partnership with Ankur Productions. This was a very good event and one of the highlights for me was the number of children and young people in the audience!Refugee Week

According to current statistics, there are about 10,000 refugees and asylum seekers in Scotland. Recent arrivals in Scotland mostly come from Iraq, Iran and Eritrea.
In other parts of the world, however, people are either internally displaced or flee to a neighboring country. Very often, refugees are not welcome.

Therefore Refugee Week provides a great opportunity for all of us to learn more about refugees and asylum seekers, the life changing experiences which compel them to flee, leaving their homes and families behind and embarking on journeys of sometimes unknown destinations and uncertain futures. Some of the lucky ones have found homes and safety in Scotland.
